Murroe Community – Kids Halloween Disco in Muintir na Tire Hall, this Monday 6-8pm. Fancy Dress Essential. €2 per child. Funds to help treatment of Evan Jones.

Sliabh Feilim Singers and Friends annual Christmas Concert will be held at 5pm in Abington Church Murroe on 27th November. Join us to celebrate the season in song.  Funds this year will be given to a program for Special Needs Children in Haiti.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Murroe Marian Club (Senior Citizens Club) will hold a Monster 45 Drive in Muintir na Tíre Hall Murroe on Nov. 15th at 8pm sharp. Spot Prizes Galore! Tea will be served. Admission 6 euro.

Boher Community Development Association: Progressive 45 every Friday night at Boher Community Centre, at 8pm.  All welcome to attend. Diary Dates:  Boher Christmas Market Sunday 11 December and Boher Parish Social Saturday, 21 January 2017. Community First Responder, Boher requires new volunteers to cover 24 hours a month.  Those interested must be over 18 years and hold a clean driving licence.  Training will take place in early 2017 to Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council.  If you are interested, contact Ita Richardson, cfrboher@gmail.com . Boher Community Alert committee would like to thank everybody who donated cakes and attended their fund raising coffee morning last Sunday.  It was a great success with €395 raised for their project work.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Well done to our minors who beat Doon last weekend to now top their group and qualify for the quarter finals to be held on November 13th. Our club AGM will be on Friday 11th November in Murroe Clubhouse at 8pm. All players, members, management and parents are asked to attend. Murroe Boher Bord na nOg held our annual Church gate collection last weekend, the amount collected was €629.80. The Bord na nOg are very thankful to all who contributed and who continue to support our fundraising. The Bord na nOg would also like to thank those who gave up their time to help collect the much needed funds.

Murroe AFC Notes. Our annual soccer draw will take place this year on Saturday 12th November at the Valley Inn Murroe. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 23rd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. The Clubs local draw with a super prize fund of Cash, Ireland match tickets, Hampers and much more will take place on the 12th of November. Please support this, our main fundraiser for 2016. Tickets are €10 each with books of 5 for €50. The Mid-West Branch of the Parkinson’s Association wish to thank all who contributed to their recent collection. Total raised was €735.18.

GLENSTAL WALKERS: Now that the darkest time of the year is upon us, it is essential that all walkers entering the grounds of Glenstal Abbey should wear High Visibility Vests from now on. Without a vest, you cannot be seen and drivers should not be put in the position of endangering lives due to the carelessness of walkers.

Sr. Consilio Fitzgerald of Cuan Mhuire, Bruree will be holding her annual church gate collection in Murroe and Boher next weekend the 29th and 30th of October Any subscriptions will be greatly received in these hard times, not forgetting to  thank our loyal collectors over the years.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Hard luck to our u13 team who lost narrowly to Croagh/Kilfinny in the county semi-final last Sunday. This marks the end of the season for our u13s, our thanks to all the girls who trained hard over the past year and also to Colin and Deirdre who put in huge effort with the girls, we look forward to seeing the girls progressing up through the age groups in the coming years. Well done to our minors who defeated Patrickswell with an outstanding second half performance in the second round. The girls now take on Doon in Boher on Sunday at 12 noon in their last group game as they attempt to clinch top spot in the group. Please get out and support.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Camogie double header!! Our U13 and minor teams both take to Boher pitch on Sunday morning at 11am & 12 noon. The U13 team play Croagh/Kilfinny at 11am in the county semi-final while our minor follow them at 12 noon in the second round of the championship against Patrickswell. Collection For Parkinson’s: The Mid-West Branch of the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland will hold a Church-Gate Collection at all masses in Murroe and Boher on the weekend of October 15/16, 2016. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Murroe-Boher Historical Society is pleased to announce the resumption of its winter talks at the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe, on Thursday, October 13, at 8.30 p.m. sharp. The first talk in the series is entitled “Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu: The Abington Connection” presented by David McBurnie with Gráinne Keays and will explore Le Fanu’s life as son of the Rector of Abington during the Tithe Wars and will examine how his experiences during this time came to influence his much-admired writing in the genre of gothic fiction. Admission €5 to non-members (including refreshments). All welcome.

Please submit, by email if possible to murroebook@gmail.com, or to any of the committee, namely, John Egan, Grainne Keays, Mary Finucane, Fr Tom Ryan, Dan Dinneen or Sean Hogg as soon as possible. This year’s deadline will be the first week in November at the latest and it is hoped that all contributions will be in by Halloween.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Hard luck to our U16 team who were beaten in their A final. The heart-breaking defeat came at the hands of Newcastle West who our girls beat in the league final to bring back the only piece of silverware our club has so far. We are so proud of the girls and we are looking forward to seeing the girls improve as they move up the age groups. Next weekend sees our minor team back in action, this time against Patrickswell at 12pm on Sunday (16th October) at home. This will be the girl’s second outing following their win over Monaleen in August. Please get out to support our girls.

The annual general meeting of the Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas branch will take place on Monday 3rd Oct in the Community Centre, Cappamore at 8.30pm. We would especially like to invite parents of students and adults attending the classes and anybody interested in the promotion of the traditional music, song, and dance in the area to attend this important meeting. Murroe Boher Camogie: Our U16 team played the A championship final on Saturday afternoon against Newcastle West, the team we beat in the league final. Next weekend our U13 team play Galbally on Saturday (8th) at 12pm in Galbally after their break for September in Round 3 of the championship. In the coming weeks our minor and U13 teams will be our last teams in competition so be sure to support the girls.

 

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg wish to advise that our u14 Footballers are in a County Final on Sunday 02nd October at 12 o’clock in St. John Park, Hospital V Killacolla Gaels. All support welcome.

 

Murroe AFC Notes. New Club Draw. The club has decided to completely revamp our annual draw which usually takes place at Christmas. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 23rd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. Tickets cost €10 each and are available from players and committee members. MURROE TIDY TOWNS 2016: Murroe gained another six marks on 2015 in their adjudication on this year’s Tidy Towns competition bringing this year’s marks to 284. It is just rewards for all the hard work put in by the very industrious local committee and it is to be hoped that in 2017, many more people will venture out to volunteer for the cause. MURROE 45 DRIVE: The 45 results are as follows; First, Francie Boyle & Liz Grant, second; Tess Byrne & Nellie Meehan and Liz Barron & Kathleen Boyle and third; Tom Grant & Dick Laffan and John Blackwell & Martin Ryan and Donie Coffey & Dick Laffan and Davy Holmes & Mairead Mullane. MURROE-BOHER TWINNING: Murroe-Boher Twinning group hosted a group of 20 French persons from Evry-Grègy-sur Yerres from September 8 to 12.  An enjoyable, but very wet day to Cork City, a visit to Lough Gur, a History morning (on the Rising) and great musical entertainment were some of the highlights of activities enjoyed together.  A lot of great memories were made and increased connections between our groups!   Next year will see the group’s 20th Anniversary…. when they will be travelling to France.  Please ring Kathryn Wilusz, Secretary, at 087-6334728 should you be interested in further information

LOCAL CAR RALLY: Lions of Limerick Jaguar Land Rover Forest Rally will take place on the weekend of October 16 in Sliabh Felim forest. The official launch took place at Lyons of Limerick showroom recently and is the penultimate round of the Valvoline Irish Forest Championship. Mechanical scrutiny takes place on Saturday, October 15 with crews Leaving Murroe on Sunday morning followed by first loop stages. They will enter service at the Mart in Newport at lunch time and then the final loops will take place. Prize giving will be at the finish ramp in Murroe in the evening and On the Limit Sports will televise the event. Information on events and where to spectate can be had on www.limerickmc.ie.

KENRY HISTORY SOCIETY:  On Wednesday, October 19, at 8.30 pm at the Community Centre, Pallaskenry, Billy O’Keeffe will present the findings from his walk of Coastal Kenry.  This is the first time such a study has been attempted and you can enjoy the fruits of his adventure in his illustrated presentation.  The history of the Shannon shore will be uncovered in Billy’s photos and paintings, along with geology, folklore and flora.  All are invited and the speaker looks forward to adding to his knowledge of his adopted area by the knowledge of local residents.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Next weekend sees our U16 team take on Newcastle West in the A final. This is currently set for Saturday (1st Oct) at 2pm in venue TBC. For updates stay tuned to our Facebook page. Best of luck to all the girls who are looking to add the championship to the league title they won earlier in the year. Last weekend saw our intermediate team bow out of the championship after losing to Crecora in the semi-final. This was a great effort by a brilliant bunch of girls who put in a lot of time and dedication to reach the semi-final stage. Thanks to Alan and Bill who came on board this year and did Trojan work. Soon we will see our U13s and minor teams back in championship action. Be sure to get out and support our U16s as they bid to bring an A title back to the club.

This is a rematch of last year’s final and promises to be a battle so be sure to come down and lend your support. On Friday night our U16 team played their A semi-final against Galbally, result next weekend. Last weekend saw our U8s take to the Gaelic Grounds where they showcased their skills. Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas will host music and singing classes again for the coming year. Registration will take place on 12th September from 6pm to 7pm at Scoil Chaitríona Cappamore. Tuition is given by very experienced teachers and students are prepared for SCT exams run by Comhaltas along with Fleadh Cheoil competitions. Murroe Boher Camogie: Our intermediate team had a hard fought win over Crecora last weekend and on Friday night played Bruff in their last group game. Semi-finals will take place on September 18th. During the week our minors and U16 teams came out on top in their games. The U16s have now topped their group and will play Galbally in a county semi-final on Friday 16th at 6.30pm in Boher. Our young stars take to the pitch in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday at half time in the senior hurling championship game between Murroe/Boher and Patrickswell at 2pm. Best of luck to Laurie Quaid, Aoibhe Butler and Jayne Ryan who travel to Dublin with the Limerick U14 development squad for the All-Ireland Blitz. This weekend sees the All-Ireland camogie finals take place in Croke Park, tune into RTE1 at 2pm on Sunday to see the intermediate final while the senior final takes place at 4pm, a great opportunity to see the best camogie players in the country. Best of luck to all teams in upcoming games.

 

Murroe AFC Notes. This Sunday Murroe Ladies will make a little bit of history when the senior ladies team contest the Div 1 cup final v Listowel at the MARKETS FIELD at 2pm. This is the 1st ladies match at the spiritual home of soccer in Limerick in over 40 years and we are asking as many people as possible to come along and support the girls. Mulcair Mens Shed – Open Day Sunday 28th August 2016

Hi All,

Mulcair Men’s Shed are having an Open Day event at our shed in Abington Enterprise Center, next Sunday 28th August from 2:00-6:00pm. Please come along and see our Shed and hear about the projects we are carrying out.

See the picture attached. These are Tactile Sensory Boards, which is the latest project that the men of Mulcair Men’s Shed are working on for special needs children. Come along to our Open Day and see them up close and personal.

ALL are welcome. So please bring along your family and friends.

Of course, we will have Music, a Barabecue, a MONSTER Raffle and some lucky dip prizes.

The Shed is located a half mile from Powers Pub, Abington, heading towards Annacotty.

We have some musicians lined up for the day, but if you know of any other session musicians that might like to come along and join the fun, they would be most welcome.

Boher Parish Calendar 2017: Boher Parish Calendar project team will be producing a parish calendar again for 2017. All members of the community are invited to submit photos for consideration. Old or modern photos will be accepted and can be related to a number of topics: historical interest, landscape, parish events, etc. Photos can be given to any of the Community Development Association members. Photos will be scanned/copied and originals will be returned within 5 days. Closing date for receipt of photos is Sunday 4 September.

 

Cappamore Historical Society will host a lecture on Ned Daly of limerick who fought in The Four Courts in 1916 and was executed for his part in the Rising, by Liam Erwin, former History lecturer in Mary Immaculate Limerick on Monday, August 22nd in Cappamore Community Centre at 7.30 pm. On Tuesday August 23rd The Society will hold an event to commemorate the 1916 Rising. This will include the unveiling of a hand forged sculpture designed and crafted by Eric O’Neill. The event will be held in the local library and will start at 7.30.

 

LCFE Cappamore Campus are now enrolling for full time PLC, QQI Level 5 courses in Childcare, Healthcare, Nursing Studies, Animal Care, Construction, Business and Blacksmith. Murroe Boher Camogie: With the inter county seasons finished, it’s time to concentrate on the club scene. Fixtures are kicking into action this week with our U13, U14, U16 and intermediate teams all in action. The U14 team take to the pitch against neighbours Doon on Tuesday (23rd) at 6.30pm in Doon. The U13s take on Kilmallock in Kilmallock on Thursday (25th) at 7pm. On Friday (26th) the U16 team who won the league in style line out in their first round of championship against Bruff in Boher at 6.30pm. Our intermediate team look to continue their winning ways against Ballybrown on Sunday (28th) at 6.30pm in Boher. Please get out to support our girls as championship season gets into full flow.

On Saturday, 27th August, we are hosting our Ryan Cusack tournament, at 13.30 in Harty Park, Murroe. This is an u13 Hurling tournament, with teams from Limerick and Tipperary taking part, again a BBQ, will be served, all support welcome.

Murroe Boher Ladies Gaelic Football: Congratulations to Limerick u17 Girls Gaelic Footballers who for the first time won out the All-Ireland blitz in Portmarnock Dublin earlier this week. Well done to Anna Madigan from our club who played her part in the win where Limerick beat teams from Offaly, Cork, Carlow, Mayo, Galway and Armagh in the final. This was a major achievement to bring All Ireland glory back to Limerick again.
