The Mulcair Men’s Shed Male Voice Choir will be having an initial meet and greet in the new Newport Town A.F.C. clubhouse at Derryleigh Park, Newport at 7pm on Sunday the 3rd September. Any man wishing to join this choir is welcome to come along on the evening and be involved in starting this great new adventure for the Men’s Shed. Non-members of Mulcair Men’s Shed will need to join, but annual membership is only €10. If you have any questions about the choir, please contact Willie O’Neill on 086-302-7413.

Boher Community Development Association is holding its Annual Charity Cycle on Saturday 3 June, in aid of Cliona’s Foundation in memory of Ciara McCarthy and The Jack and Gill Children’s Foundation, in memory of Rhona Kett Sheridan, commencing at 7pm at Boher Community Centre. The full cycle loop is 40km for the experienced cyclist, but for the less practiced there are plenty of shortcut routes, which makes it suitable for all fitness levels and ages! There will be refreshments for all participants after the cycle. Entry fee for the cycle is a donation of your choice at registration. Registration for the event will start at 6.15pm. Boher Community Development Association 40K annual Charity Cycle will take place on Saturday 3 June at 7pm from Boher Community Centre. Registration from 6.15pm. This is a 40k cycle loop with various shortcut options. Refreshments following the cycle. After all the work and preparation, it was marvellous to see 1176 walkers assemble for the Murroe Darkness into Light on Saturday morning. To open the event, the Glenstal School choir, joined by Nóirín Ní Riain and conducted by Fr Columba, who wrote music especially for the Murroe Pieta House walk, performed outside the hall. The Pieta House message was read by Geraldine O’Brien, a message which means so much to those who have been affected by suicide. The choir and walkers sang ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before the hooter sounded and the walk commenced. Volunteers had put out lights along the route, which were greatly enhanced by arrays of lights put out by householders. At the end of the walk, people were treated to refreshments – all supplied by businesses and locals.
The Murroe Darkness into Light Committee want to express their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us. It would have been impossible to organise this without the 100+ locals who helped out, many of whom worked throughout the night to welcome the walkers. We received sponsorship and support from our locals businesses and clubs, Glenstal community gave unstinting support – what a welcome to have the community come out and greet the walkers. Looking forward to next year!
