Killinure N.S. Table Quiz: Killinure N.S. Parents’ Council presents a Social Night with a Table Quiz for Parents and Friends of Killinure on Friday, March 10, at 9 pm in Crokers Pub, Murroe. Murroe-Boher Historical Society will host a talk by Joseph Lennon on Thursday, 9 March at 8.30 p.m. sharp at the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe. The talk is entitled “Transplantation to Connacht: Fact or Fiction?” Admission €5 to non-members, including refreshments.

Murroe Boher Camogie Club: This weekend sees the Murroe/Boher senior camogie team kick into action with a game against Bruff at 11.30am on Sunday in Boher, please show your support! Last weekend the county minor and U16 teams lost out to Clare and Cork respectively. Hard luck to Edel Cunningham, Katie Heelan (Both minor), Megan Kiely and Hazel Hourigan (both U16) who were members of the panels. Next Saturday (11th) the Limerick minor team will play Galway at home in the third round of championship. Well done to Ciara Oliver, who during the week was named on the Limerick U13 development squad.

Field Project Update: The Field Project is progressing well. We are now close to going for tender for the Astro Turf Pitch. It is planned to build both the Astro pitch and the walking track together. It is hoped that we will have contractors on site at the beginning of May and have this stage of the project completed in August.

Glenstal Abbey Retreat Day: Ageing Well Saturday 4th March. As we all live longer, can we age well? This workshop will reflect on the challenges of ageing. It will consider the need for a ritual of transition and whether there are spiritual practices suited to this stage of life. Murroe Boher Camogie Club: Well done to Niamh Richardson and the Limerick seniors who got their league off to a winning start last weekend against Meath. Hard luck to Edel Cunningham and Katie Heelan who were part of the Limerick minor team who lost out to a strong Kilkenny side. This weekend the minors are out on Saturday at 2pm in Clonlara against Clare. Megan Kiely and Hazel Hourigan are putting on the green jersey with the county U16 team who take on Cork in the Munster semi-final at 2pm in Mahon on Sunday. Next weekend sees the first round of the club senior league kick off as Murroe/Boher will take on Bruff at home. Best of luck to all our girls and please show your support!

Many thanks to all who supported the collection in aid of St Vincent’s Lisnagry last weekend. To those who stood at the tables in the cold and the wind – thank you. The amount collected in Murroe was €685.

Murroe/Boher Lourdes Committee are offering a place to a 5th year student to travel to Lourdes on this year’s pilgrimage as a youth helper, which takes place from 16th to 21st June. Murroe-Boher Community Games: Murroe-Boher Community Games:  The U13 Boys Murroe-Boher indoor soccer team claimed silver medals in Galvone last week.  The boys played Caherdavin in semi-final & despite being two goals down at halftime, they turned it around to lead 3-2 midway through the 2nd half but then lost a player and had to play on with 4 for last 9 mins but showed great courage to win 5-4 in a thriller. In the final they played a strong Cappagh team and although ahead at the break, they unfortunately lost 5-4 in another nail bitter.  A terrific effort from all the boys with all outfield players on the goal trail led by super performance & goals from captain Nathan O’Shea. The other goal scores Jeffrey O’Rourke, Mikey Walsh, James Judge, David Moloney & Joe Shanahan. The overall player of the tournament was awarded to Murroe-Boher’s fantastic goalkeeper Jamie Kirby. Some outstanding saves – well done to Jamie & his teammates.

Murroe AFC: Soccer Sisters is an FAI programme, the aim of which is to introduce girls aged 7-12 to soccer. The programme will run in Murroe AFC for 6 weeks on Saturdays from 9-10am, commencing on Sat, 11 Feb and will be run by Barry McGann, FAI Development Officer. The program is free of charge. All participants will receive a Soccer Sisters jersey. Only equipment required is shin guards and sports shoes! The only thing parents are asked to do is to register players online at www.fai.ie/ssclubprog. All girls aged 7-12 are more than welcome to join us.

Murroe Boher Camogie Club: This weekend sees the intercounty camogie season kick off with 3 of our girls in action in 2 games. The Limerick senior team, with Niamh Richardson, play Meath at 2pm in Rathkeale on Saturday (18th) in the first round of the league. On Sunday (19th) Edel Cunningham and Katie Heelan take on Kilkenny in the first round of the All Ireland Championship with the Limerick minors in Kilkenny at 2pm. Next Saturday the Limerick minor team will again line out against Clare in Clare. Best of luck to our girls and to the teams. Please support our girls!

Ballyhoura Development CLG has been awarded funding from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, to provide basic digital skills training to people under the Department’s new Digital Skills for Citizens Grant Scheme.  In a ‘connected’ society, digital skills for everyone are absolutely essential, in order to realise the full social and economic potential of the digital world. Helping individuals, communities and businesses acquire them is a priority of this scheme. The training aims to give people the confidence, motivation and skills to take their first steps online. Having digital skills can enrich the lives of people by giving them better access to information, culture, entertainment, social networking, eGovernment services, as well as online goods and services. Training is delivered over five two hour sessions and is FREE. Training will be available throughout the Ballyhoura area. Murroe-Boher Community Games: Well done to all those taking part in indoor soccer, the Boys U10 Lions, U10 Tigers and U13 Girls Leopards.  The Boys U10 Lions came up against Caherdavin who were a formidable side and went down 9-1 while the U10 Tigers were very evenly matched against Castlemahon/Feohanagh and lost 5-4. There was a great turn-out for the County B Swim in Askeaton last Sunday and all enjoyed the event.  Congratulations to Peter Ashe who came 1st place in the U10 Backstroke; to Siobhan Cooke who came 2nd place in the U12 Freestyle and to the Murroe Primary School Swim Team who came 3rd place in the Mixed Relay.

 Murroe AFC: Soccer Sisters is an FAI programme, the aim of which is to introduce girls aged 7-12 to soccer. Niamh Richardson is part of the Limerick team, we wish her and the team the best for the coming year and ask all supporters to support both club and county throughout the year at all age groups. Boher Community Development Association wishes to thank all those who supported our recent Parish social. It was a very enjoyable night and a great success.  The Committee would like to thank sincerely, those who attended the event, bought tickets to support the event and supplied items for auction – Paudie Laffan and the Egan family who supplied trees for blocks, the volunteers who cut timber for the auction, Roches Feeds, Liffey Mills Nenagh, John O’Connell Crecora Mills, Rearcross Quarries and Kerry Agribusiness, Herbertstown. Sincere thanks also to the staff of the Millennium Centre, Caherconlish and all who donated spot prizes. €3,300 was raised through this event for the upkeep of our community centre.

Boher Community Development Association AGM took place recently.  Chairman, Pat O Connell outlined the activities which took place throughout the year to highlight the work being done within the community by this committee.  He thanked the Officers, committee and the community for their support throughout the year.  Elected Officers for 2017: President, Canon Tom Ryan; Chairperson, Pat O Connell; Secretary, Sarah Fitzgerald; Treasurer, Helena Hickey; PRO, Mary Finucane-Ryan.

Ballyhoura Development CLG has been awarded funding from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, to provide basic digital skills training to people under the Department’s new Digital Skills for Citizens Grant Scheme.  In a ‘connected’ society, digital skills for everyone are absolutely essential, in order to realise the full social and economic potential of the digital world. Helping individuals, communities and businesses acquire them is a priority of this scheme. The training aims to give people the confidence, motivation and skills to take their first steps online. Having digital skills can enrich the lives of people by giving them better access to information, culture, entertainment, social networking, eGovernment services, as well as online goods and services. Training is delivered over five two hour sessions and is FREE. Training will be available throughout the Ballyhoura area. Murroe-Boher Historical Society will hold a talk by John Hassett on Thursday, 9 February 2017 at 8.30p.m. sharp at the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe. The talk is entitled “Were you ever up in Vaucluse?“ and traces the long-overlooked history of the Vaucluse Hunting Lodge from its beginnings as a playground of the gentry, to a farmer’s pleasure garden, to now forlorn ruin. Part of the talk will examine the origins of a local family who lived in rural Toorlougher in the early 1800s. Admission €5 to non-members (includes refreshments). All welcome.

Murroe-Boher Historical Society wishes to thank all those who supported its recent successful and highly enjoyable table quiz. Special thanks go to all those who participated on the night; those who donated spot prizes; the proprietors of the venue, Darragh, Tom and Mary Ryan of the Valley Inn; Frank Ryan who supplied questions and answers; and Sean and Paddy for the sound system. Murroe-Boher Community Games: Well done to the U 13 Boys Indoor Soccer Team who are now through to the semi-finals.  They won 8-3 v Regional and 5-4 v Caherdavin B.  A great team effort from the all: Jamie Kirby, Mikey Walsh, Nathan O’Shea, Joe Shanahan, James Judge, Jeffrey O’Rourke, David Moloney & Michael Kinsella. Energy Project 2017: An important meeting will be held by the Energy Communities Tipperary Co-op in the Cappamore Community Hall at 8pm sharp on Wednesday February 1st. The meeting concerns the availability of retrofitting grants for energy measures in your home, business or community facility. This project has been rolled out successfully in Tipperary parishes over the last 4 years and it is to be hoped that it will extend to Limerick.

 Many thanks to all who contributed to last weekend’s Homeless collection. A total of €576 was raised.

Bilboa AC ‘Juvenile Registration & Training’ 2017: Juvenile Registration with Bilboa AC is currently taking place. Any parents or guardians wishing to register children born between the years 1999 and 2009, can register with Brendan Laffan at Friday nights indoor training in the sports hall in Cappamore for the next number of weeks, or complete the club registration form & leave details at the club reception desk on Monday night’s etc. The cost per child for registration for the calendar year 2017, is €25 per child, €50 for two children, with a maximum of €60 for a family of 3 or more. A photocopied Birth Certificate (not an original) is required for NEW Juveniles, which is sent off to Athletics Ireland. Bilboa AC Juvenile training has resumed on Friday nights in the Indoor Sports Hall in Cappamore, 7 to 8pm, with a Hall charge of €2 per child. Our outdoor training is on Mondays nights at the Bilboa AC grounds, again at 7 to 8pm.

Remembrance Tree: The East Limerick Branch of the Irish Red Cross have placed a remembrance tree in local Churches including Murroe and Boher. On this tree, you can place a remember me ribbon for loved ones that have passed away, the sick and those living abroad this Christmas. Ribbons cost €2 each and can be purchased at local shops and businesses or from members of the local Irish Red Cross. The Ribbons are also available in Boher Sacristy.

Boher Community Development Association: Boher 2017 Parish Calendar on sale.  It includes a delightful selection of old and recent photographs reflecting the lives and achievements of the people of Boher and places of interest.  The back of the calendar features some Boher-related snippets from old newspapers and journals.  It is available from the Bars in Boher and the shops and PO in Murroe.  Cost €5.
