Murroe-Boher Historical Society will host its next talk at the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe on Thursday, February 15 at 8.30 p.m. sharp. Our speaker will be John Hassett and he will be discussing: “Ballyvorheen House: A History from Cromwell to Cosgrave.” Admission €5 to non-members – refreshments included. Very little is known of Ballyvorheen House: when it was built, who lived there, etc. Today we know it as the Thomond Scout Centre. However it has been associated with the largest landed families in County Limerick: the Bourkes, Standish O’Gradys and the Lloyds. John will look at the earliest land records, maps and photos associated with the house and townland of Ballyvorheen from before the Cromwellian settlement, right up the foundation of the Free State in the 20th Century.
