University Maternity Hospital Limerick holds its annual remembrance service at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ennis Road, Limerick, on Sunday, November 5^th (3pm). We invite parents who have experienced the death of their baby/pregnancy loss at any stage, together with their family, friends and hospital staff to this service.

Murroe Boher Camogie Club: Well done to our minor team who had two great wins over Doon and Ballybrown in the championship during the week, unfortunately their last group game has been cancelled and our girls will top their group and head into a semi-final which is due to be played next Sunday (November 5^th) with fixture TBC. Our club will be taking orders for club gear for Christmas, deadline is November 8^th. Sample sizes will be available Monday 30^th October from 5-6pm in Murroe Clubhouse and Saturday 4^th November 5-6pm in Boher Community Centre, more information on our Facebook page.

Murroe AFC Notes. Our annual soccer draw will take place this year in November at the Valley Inn Murroe. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 22nd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. In his list of diseases found in the Curia, Pope Francis’ refers to the disease of “excessive planning and of functionalism”. A disease we could all take note of – the disease of excessive control reflecting a lack of trust.

“When an apostle plans everything down to the last detail and believes that with perfect planning things will fall into place, he becomes an accountant or an office manager.

Things need to be prepared well, but without ever falling into the temptation of trying to contain and direct the freedom of the Holy Spirit, which is always greater and more flexible than any human planning (cf. Jn 3:8).

We contract this disease because “it is always more easy and comfortable to settle in our own sedentary and unchanging ways.

In truth, the Christian and the Church show their fidelity to the Holy Spirit to the extent that they do not try to control or tame that Holy Spirit! … The Spirit is freshness, imagination, and newness”.

Let us relinquish control, even for a moment, and trust in the guiding hand of the Holy Spirit.

EIGHT points from play from captain Pat Tobin inspired Murroe-Boher to the LIT Limerick Premier IHC title this Wednesday night under the floodlights of the Gaelic Grounds.

The final score was Murroe-Boher 1-21 Garryspillane 1-15.

Along with the eight points form play from Pat Tobin, his brother Seanie Tobin ended with 1-10 (0-8frees).

The replay win came just over 72-hours after the sides had played out a dramatic draw on Sunday.

There is little time to celebrate for Murroe-Boher, who now play Clare champions Kilmaley in teh Munster club quarter final on Sunday (1.15) in Ennis.

Murroe-Boher were 0-12 to 0-8 ahead at half time but it could have been a greater advantage but for their tally of seven wides, compared to just two for The Bouncers.

Captain Pat Tobin led the way in the opening half with six points from play.

But crucially one of the Murroe-Boher scores was a ffith minute Seanie Tobin goal that moved his side 1-13 to 0-10 ahead.

When Seanie and Pat Tobin and Dylan Sheehan had a run of scores between the 48th and 54th minute, Murroe-Boher had a 1-18 to 0-12 lead.

Five minutes from time, came the Garryspillane goal – Donie Ryan finding the net.

That left it 1-20 to 1-15 but Murroe-Boher were not to be denied an immediate return back to the senior hurling ranks.

Thought for the Week – MINISTRY OF LISTENING

Psychotherapy taught me the power of listening.’ I was at my first session, (it had taken me six weeks to work up the courage to talk to him!) and I became aware of a new sensation – a feeling of safety – this person was present in a way that I had never experienced – present in a way that made me feel safe and secure. He held a space for me where healing could begin – he was exercising what I now know as ‘the ministry of listening’.

The difference was that he was really present – he reflected what I said, sat forward, focussed on me. And I knew he was listening and not just hearing – and there is a difference – hearing is something passive – our ears are always on – we can’t switch them off. Listening on the other hand is active, requiring effort – it is powerful in its transforming ability.

Listening is a ministry we can all engage in no matter what age and there is no need for further study or ordination, though training makes a difference my mother and I both agree!

Join us on Thursday, October 19, in the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe, at 8.30 p.m. sharp, where Murroe Boher Historical Society will host Dr Julie McGrath who will be speaking on the nineteenth-century poet and social reformer, Aubrey de Vere, of Curraghchase House. Admission €5 to non-members (refreshments included). De Vere included Wordsworth, Tennyson and Newman among his friends. Wordsworth called his sonnets the most perfect of the age. He is also remembered as a social reformer with his efforts to alleviate distress during the famine and his support for assisted emigration schemes. This talk will examine the ways in which his religious faith influenced his public and private life, his involvement in the Limerick lunatic asylum controversy in the 1860s, consideration of his involvement in the magistrate system and his views on the extension of local government in Ireland.

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg, would like to thank everyone who took part in our family fun 5km cycle on Saturday 7^th October. We would also like to thank everyone who supported and sponsored cards for our young cyclists, and all those who helped out with stewarding and cooking the BBQ on the day, it was a great success and fun was had by all. Between the senior cycle on Sunday and our cycle on Saturday, nearly €2,000 was raised for the Club. We would like to wish our Intermediate hurlers the best of luck in this Sunday’s county final, at 13.30 in Gaelic Grounds in Limerick. We urge all supporters to come in early and get behind the team.

Thought for the Week – DIGITAL sabbath

If we don’t get our attention under control there are plenty of people who will. The church has always understood that directing our attention toward what is holy is important. That is why medieval Christendom was filled with prayers, rituals, fasts and feasts: to keep life, both public and private ordered around divine things.

If we are to regain control of our attention, the first step is to create a space of silence in which you can think. To still the mind is hard but by doing it you open up a beach-head in which the holy spirit can work to calm the stormy waters within.

There is a Jewish organisation called ‘Reboot’ which promotes what they call the ‘DIGITAL sabbath’ – a day of rest in which people disconnect from technology especially computers, iPads and smartphones – in order that they can reconnect with the real world..

A Coffee Morning will be held in the Community Hall Murroe on this Sunday 8^th October from 9.30am to 1pm. The purpose is to raise funds for Children’s Medical Research in Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children.

CFR Boher –are running CFR courses for the first group of volunteers to qualify in November 2015, whose certification will be out of date this November. Ita Richardson and Paul Earls will run two courses on Saturday 14^th October 6-10pm, and on Sunday 15^th October 9am-1pm. Members are required to do the full course training and examination again. CFR Boher is running a CFR (Cardiac Pulomonary Resuscitation) course in Boher Community Centre, under the auspices of Irish Water Safety. Particpants will learn how to deal with Heart Attack, Stroke, Chest Pain and Choking, enabling them to deal with emergency situations as they arise. Following this course, participants will be Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) qualified. Anyone aged 12+ is welcome to attend.. Course is free to particpants. Cost ot become PHECC registered following the course, (for those who wich to do so and are not CFR Boher volunteers) is €25. We are running two separate courses – Saturday 14th 6pm-10pm and Sunday 15th 9am-1pm. Comhaltas AGM: The annual general meeting of the Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas branch will take place on Monday 2^nd Oct in the Community Centre, Cappamore at 9.00 pm. We would especially like to invite parents of students and adults attending the classes and anybody interested in the promotion of the traditional music, song, and dance in the area to attend this important meeting. A Coffee Morning will be held in the Community Hall Murroe on Sunday 8^th October from 9.30am to 1pm. The purpose is to raise funds for Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children.

Table Quiz – BOHER COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION wishes to thank all who supported in every way, their very successful Table Quiz night. It was a very enjoyable night and €600 was raised for their Community Centre. Sincere thanks to Frank Ryan, Johnny Skehan, Liam and Brid Lynch and staff of Pa McGraths who hosted the event. Thank you also to the many sponsors who very kindly supported the event and donated spot prizes.

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg would like to congratulate our u10 Hurlers on winning The Jim Commons Tournament on Sunday last 24^th September, and congratulate Eoin Fitzpatrick on winning the player of the tournament. We would also like to congratulate all of our u8 boys and girls who played in our Munster U8 Blitz on Sunday, they all had a fantastic day. We would like to thank everyone who helped out and supported our tournaments on Sunday making sure all players left the field with medals and trophies.

Murroe Boher GAA. Last Sunday evening saw a great result for our Intermediate Hurlers when they overcame Pallasgreen in the County Semi Final 0-15 to 0-12, so attention now shifts to the final v Garryspillane on October 15^th in the Gaelic Ground where preparations are in full flow to regain our Senior Status. The team and management have put in a huge effort so deserve a huge backing from the parish. We urge all supporters to get out the flags and colours to show your support over the next few weeks.

Murroe Boher Camogie Club: Hard luck to our intermediate team who lost their county semi-final to a strong Crecora team last weekend, with a very young team, there is great promise for the future of Murroe/Boher camogie. Our u16s played the A plate final on Friday evening against Bruff/Kilmallock – result next week. The U10 county blitz fixed for this Saturday has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
