Collection For Parkinson’s: The Mid-West Branch of the Parkinson’s Association of Ireland will hold a Church-Gate Collection at all masses in Murroe and Boher on the weekend of October 15/16, 2016. All support would be greatly appreciated.

Murroe-Boher Historical Society is pleased to announce the resumption of its winter talks at the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe, on Thursday, October 13, at 8.30 p.m. sharp. The first talk in the series is entitled “Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu: The Abington Connection” presented by David McBurnie with Gráinne Keays and will explore Le Fanu’s life as son of the Rector of Abington during the Tithe Wars and will examine how his experiences during this time came to influence his much-admired writing in the genre of gothic fiction. Admission €5 to non-members (including refreshments). All welcome.

MURROE-BOHER ANNUAL NEWSLETTER 2016: It’s that time of year when clubs, organisations, article writers and people with photos of interest should be thinking of their contribution to this year’s annual newsletter. Please submit, by email if possible to murroebook@gmail.com, or to any of the committee, namely, John Egan, Grainne Keays, Mary Finucane, Fr Tom Ryan, Dan Dinneen or Sean Hogg as soon as possible. This year’s deadline will be the first week in November at the latest and it is hoped that all contributions will be in by Halloween.

Boher Community Development Association: Boher Community Alert are holding a Coffee Morning to raise funds for Community Alert projects, on Sunday 23 October at 10.30.  Your support for this great initiative would be most welcome. Progressive 45 every Friday night at 8pm at Boher Community centre.  All welcome to attend.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Hard luck to our U16 team who were beaten in their A final. The heart-breaking defeat came at the hands of Newcastle West who our girls beat in the league final to bring back the only piece of silverware our club has so far. We are so proud of the girls and we are looking forward to seeing the girls improve as they move up the age groups. Next weekend sees our minor team back in action, this time against Patrickswell at 12pm on Sunday (16th October) at home. This will be the girl’s second outing following their win over Monaleen in August. Please get out to support our girls.

Murroe AFC Notes. New Club Draw. The club has decided to completely revamp our annual draw which usually takes place at Christmas. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 23rd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. Tickets cost €10 each and are available from players and committee members. RTE’s ‘Nationwide’ Visit to Murroe

Limerick Garda Youth Awards

Nominations are being sought for the third annual Limerick Garda Divisional Youth Awards 2016.

Any child or group of children, aged between 14 years and 19 years that have contributed to their community in a positive manner can be nominated for an award.

Nomination forms can be obtained from any garda station in Limerick or downloaded by clicking here.

Completed forms should be submitted to Mayorstone Garda station, Limerick by October 28th, 2016. 

The overall winners will be honoured at a Gala Dinner at the Woodlands House Hotel on Thursday 24th November 2016.

The annual general meeting of the Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas branch will take place on Monday 3rd Oct in the Community Centre, Cappamore at 8.30pm. We would especially like to invite parents of students and adults attending the classes and anybody interested in the promotion of the traditional music, song, and dance in the area to attend this important meeting. Murroe Boher Camogie: Our U16 team played the A championship final on Saturday afternoon against Newcastle West, the team we beat in the league final. Next weekend our U13 team play Galbally on Saturday (8th) at 12pm in Galbally after their break for September in Round 3 of the championship. In the coming weeks our minor and U13 teams will be our last teams in competition so be sure to support the girls.

 

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg wish to advise that our u14 Footballers are in a County Final on Sunday 02nd October at 12 o’clock in St. John Park, Hospital V Killacolla Gaels. All support welcome.

MURROE TIDY TOWNS 2016: Murroe gained another six marks on 2015 in their adjudication on this year’s Tidy Towns competition bringing this year’s marks to 284. It is just rewards for all the hard work put in by the very industrious local committee and it is to be hoped that in 2017, many more people will venture out to volunteer for the cause. MURROE 45 DRIVE: The 45 results are as follows; First, Francie Boyle & Liz Grant, second; Tess Byrne & Nellie Meehan and Liz Barron & Kathleen Boyle and third; Tom Grant & Dick Laffan and John Blackwell & Martin Ryan and Donie Coffey & Dick Laffan and Davy Holmes & Mairead Mullane. Table prizes were won by Brendan Quirke & Dan Shanahan and Dan Healy & Gerry Conway. The weekly 45 Drive takes place every Tuesday night at 8-15 pm for the autumn.

MURROE-BOHER TWINNING: Murroe-Boher Twinning group hosted a group of 20 French persons from Evry-Grègy-sur Yerres from September 8 to 12.  An enjoyable, but very wet day to Cork City, a visit to Lough Gur, a History morning (on the Rising) and great musical entertainment were some of the highlights of activities enjoyed together.  A lot of great memories were made and increased connections between our groups!   Next year will see the group’s 20th Anniversary…. when they will be travelling to France.  Please ring Kathryn Wilusz, Secretary, at 087-6334728 should you be interested in further information

LOCAL CAR RALLY: Lions of Limerick Jaguar Land Rover Forest Rally will take place on the weekend of October 16 in Sliabh Felim forest. The official launch took place at Lyons of Limerick showroom recently and is the penultimate round of the Valvoline Irish Forest Championship. Mechanical scrutiny takes place on Saturday, October 15 with crews Leaving Murroe on Sunday morning followed by first loop stages. They will enter service at the Mart in Newport at lunch time and then the final loops will take place. Prize giving will be at the finish ramp in Murroe in the evening and On the Limit Sports will televise the event. Information on events and where to spectate can be had on www.limerickmc.ie.

KENRY HISTORY SOCIETY:  On Wednesday, October 19, at 8.30 pm at the Community Centre, Pallaskenry, Billy O’Keeffe will present the findings from his walk of Coastal Kenry.  This is the first time such a study has been attempted and you can enjoy the fruits of his adventure in his illustrated presentation.  The history of the Shannon shore will be uncovered in Billy’s photos and paintings, along with geology, folklore and flora.  All are invited and the speaker looks forward to adding to his knowledge of his adopted area by the knowledge of local residents.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Next weekend sees our U16 team take on Newcastle West in the A final. This is currently set for Saturday (1st Oct) at 2pm in venue TBC. For updates stay tuned to our Facebook page. Best of luck to all the girls who are looking to add the championship to the league title they won earlier in the year. Last weekend saw our intermediate team bow out of the championship after losing to Crecora in the semi-final. This was a great effort by a brilliant bunch of girls who put in a lot of time and dedication to reach the semi-final stage. Thanks to Alan and Bill who came on board this year and did Trojan work. Soon we will see our U13s and minor teams back in championship action. Be sure to get out and support our U16s as they bid to bring an A title back to the club.

New Murroe-Boher Scouts Website

Murroe-Boher 14th Limerick Scout Group is one of the largest and fastest-growing groups in Limerick. It has over 120 children registered, ranging from ages 6-18 years, and over 45 adult leaders. A member of Scouting Ireland, it is dedicated to bringing children outdoors in the spirit of fun and adventure.

The group has just set up a website, http://www.murroeboherscouts.com, and Facebook page,  where it will be posting info about its activities. There is always a demand for new leaders so if you are interested in becoming involved or finding out more about this, please contact the group through the site or by e-mailing: murroeboher14limerick@gmail.com.

Tidy Towns Results Out!

Murroe NS Teacher Featuring At Féilte 2016

We wish to extend our congratulations and best wishes to Colm ó hAnluain, senior infants teacher at Scoil Mhuire, Murroe, who will be showcasing a project in this year’s Féilte, Festival of Education in Learning and Teaching Excellence.

Colm is the creator of a unique and innovative STEM teaching resource that introduces children to mathematical concepts and the science of simple machines through hands-on, problem-based learning. The resource has been garnering lots of attention across the country, and has been featured on Nationwide, the Irish Times, and at the Dublin Maker’s Festival.
