Murroe AFC Notes. Our A team made history last weekend by qualifying for the “out of town” stage of the Munster Junior Cup. Reaching the last 32 is a great achievement and hopefully more to come. This was achieved after a 6-1 victory over Regional B with Liam Quinn netting an incredible 5 and Aidan Ryan adding the extras. Well done lads. The Cs were not as fortunate losing out 3-0 to Mungret in the League. Well done to our U12 Super blues GIRLS who won their match against Herbertstown. It was an early start for the girls, but they showed skill and determination which paid off in the end. Few girls missing today but well done to some girls who played other positions to help out. A fantastic bunch of girls – well done. A big thank you to Supermac’s and Siobhan Flynn for sponsoring the U14 girls soccer jerseys, shorts and socks. It is greatly appreciated. The girls look fabulous in them. Thanks again from Paul, Danny and Sarah. Murroe-Boher GAA Capture the LIT Limerick Premier IHC title

EIGHT points from play from captain Pat Tobin inspired Murroe-Boher to the LIT Limerick Premier IHC title this Wednesday night under the floodlights of the Gaelic Grounds.

The final score was Murroe-Boher 1-21 Garryspillane 1-15.

Along with the eight points form play from Pat Tobin, his brother Seanie Tobin ended with 1-10 (0-8frees).

The replay win came just over 72-hours after the sides had played out a dramatic draw on Sunday.

There is little time to celebrate for Murroe-Boher, who now play Clare champions Kilmaley in teh Munster club quarter final on Sunday (1.15) in Ennis.

Murroe-Boher were 0-12 to 0-8 ahead at half time but it could have been a greater advantage but for their tally of seven wides, compared to just two for The Bouncers.

Captain Pat Tobin led the way in the opening half with six points from play.

But crucially one of the Murroe-Boher scores was a ffith minute Seanie Tobin goal that moved his side 1-13 to 0-10 ahead.

When Seanie and Pat Tobin and Dylan Sheehan had a run of scores between the 48th and 54th minute, Murroe-Boher had a 1-18 to 0-12 lead.

Five minutes from time, came the Garryspillane goal – Donie Ryan finding the net.

That left it 1-20 to 1-15 but Murroe-Boher were not to be denied an immediate return back to the senior hurling ranks.

SCORERS: Murroe-Boher: Seanie Tobin 1-10 (0-8frees), Pat Tobin 0-8, Dylan Sheehan 0-2 (1lineball), Matthew Hanly 0-1. Garryspillane: Donie Ryan 1-9 (0-8frees), Micheal O’Donnell and Colin Ryan 0-2 each, James Ryan and Danny Hayes 0-1 each.

MURROE-BOHER: William Tobin; Dylan Ryan, Seamus Hickey, Brian Timmons; Barry Cusack,  Darragh Kennedy, Finn Hourigan; Aaron Kennedy, Dylan Sheehan; Jack Casey, Conor Byrnes, Sean Tobin; Darren Dunlea, Pat Tobin, Cillian Byrnes. Subs: Matthew Hanly for Aaron Kennedy (29mins), Dylan O’Connor for Cillian Byrnes (h-t), Ross Kennedy for Darren Dunlea (57mins).

GARRYSPILLANE: Vincent Sheehan; Ciaran Bourke, Dave Ryan, Roibeard O’Donovan; Cathal Shanahan, Stephen Meade, Gearoid Power; Micheal Bourke, John Kerins; Kieran Hickey, Donie Ryan, Danny Hayes; Colin Ryan, Micheal O’Donnell, Eoin Sheehan. Subs: James Ryan for Micheal Bourke (h-t), Jamie Morrissey for Stephen Meade (51mins), Jack O’Mullane for John Kerins (55mins),

Join us on Thursday, October 19, in the Muintir na Tíre Hall, Murroe, at 8.30 p.m. sharp, where Murroe Boher Historical Society will host Dr Julie McGrath who will be speaking on the nineteenth-century poet and social reformer, Aubrey de Vere, of Curraghchase House. This talk will examine the ways in which his religious faith influenced his public and private life, his involvement in the Limerick lunatic asylum controversy in the 1860s, consideration of his involvement in the magistrate system and his views on the extension of local government in Ireland.
