At the CFR Boher Annual General meeting held recently, the community discussed the overall working of the scheme which has been in place for 2 years.  We are getting approximately 1 call out per month, covering 70% of time supporting the National Ambulance Service in the area.  Training is held on a regular basis, and members of the community are invited to learn CPR techniques at drop-in sessions for their personal benefit, while volunteers are trained to Pre-Hospital Emergence Care Council (PHECC) standards by Irish Water Safety (Limerick City) instructors, Ita Richardson and Paul Earls.  Over 20 people have been volunteers with CFR Boher over the past 2 years, with 10 people currently active, with each volunteer giving up to 72 hours per month to the scheme.   If anyone is interested in finding out more about the scheme, joining the committee, helping with fundraising or volunteering, please contact us at cfrboher@gmail.com.  We would like to thank everyone who has helped with CFR Boher, our volunteers, Boher Development Committee and those who have supported us financially including local anonymous donation (€750), Bank of Ireland and Abington Hygiene.

Murroe Boher Historical Society will present this illustrated talk looking at early Irish Christianity on Thursday 15th of March in the Muintir Na Tire Hall Murroe Co Limerick at 8.30. Alf Monaghan’s illustrated talk looks at the history of early Irish Christianity from a different perspective – a Mediterranean perspective. It provides a tantalizing glimpse under the veil of history. It asks many questions and confounds some of the accepted theories about the history of early Christianity in Ireland. Recent Irish discoveries such as the Fadden More Psalter, an Egyptian papyrus found in an ancient book of psalms from a Tipperary bog, are clues pointing to a more substantial eastern Mediterranean influence. It traces links with ancient Egypt, connects Irish monasticism with the desert fathers and the early Irish Church with the Coptic Church. All are welcome
