Murroe-Boher Historical Society is pleased to announce that Dr. Margaret O’Brien is returning to us to expand on the excellent lecture she presented to us last year. Her talk will be on “Traditional Irish Herbal Medicine and Remedies for Animals”. The talk will take place at the Hall, Murroe, on Thursday, November 15, beginning at 8.30 p.m. sharp. Boher Community Development Association: Boher Christmas Market, Sunday 9th December, at 2pm.  Calling all craftspeople, artists, bakers, (young and not so young), and culinary experts.  Book a stall at Boher Community Centre by contacting Paudie Laffan 086 0785836 and show off/sell some of your creative delights.  There will be a small charge of €5 per stall.  Santa and Mrs Claus will also visit our refurbished Community Centre and children can call to see them in their new grotto.  Great afternoon promised!

There is something for everyone: Wheel of Fortune, visit Santa in his grotto, coats & handbags stalls, bric-a-brac, cakes, toys, books, games, competitions, children’s entertainment, tea & cake, a signed and framed Limerick Jersey raffled on the day and lots, lots more. All proceeds will go towards the development of the school.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team News: No fixtures last weekend as the FAI Cup Final was on in Dublin. The A team take on Geraldines this coming weekend in Tubber in the 4th Round of the FAI Junior Cup. The B team and the C team have no fixtures.

The annual Murroe AFC fundraising local draw took place last Saturday night, lots of local winners which is great to see. The main national draw will be on in the middle of the month in Dublin, best of luck to all who bought tickets in that second draw! Prize winners list for the local Murroe AFC draw is on Facebook.

Murroe/Boher Camogie Club: Hard luck to our minor camogie team who lost their county semi-final last weekend to a very strong Newcastle West team. This brings an end to the playing season for our club. We want to thank all our players, coaches and supporters over the past year and we look forward to next year and what promises to be another great season for the club. Our thanks to everyone who came to support our table quiz last Friday which was greatly supported by the whole community. November 12th will see our AGM take place at 8pm in Murroe Clubhouse. Murroe Boher Bord na nOg, held our annual Church gate collection last weekend, and we are delighted to announce that we collected €796.93, and we are very grateful for all those who contributed to this collection.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team News: A good weekend on the field again last weekend. The A team took on Castle Rovers in Fedamore once again, (in the league this time), and came out on top in a thriller on a scoreline of 4-3. the B team and the C team had no fixtures. No fixtures this weekend as the FAI Cup Final is on at the Aviva Stadium.

The annual Murroe AFC fundraising draw, in association with the FAI is on again. There’s a fantastic range of prizes for both the National and the Local draws as always. Tickets have just been released and are priced at €10 or a book of 5 for €50. Tickets are available from all coaches, players, and committee members from this weekend. The Local draw will take place on the 3rd November in the Valley Inn, with the National draw in the middle of November.

Murroe AFC’s book “Murroe AFC The First 50 Years 1968-2018”is still available to purchase at Spar, and English’s. The book is a fabulous record of the story of the first 50 years of soccer in Murroe and is available at a price of €15. Now that the nights are getting longer, and you’ll be settling in by the fire, you’ll need a good read!

Denis & Margaret Holmes would like to thank everyone who supported their recent coffee morning in aid of Milford Care Centre and to all those who helped out in any way. The amount raised was €1,800 which has been presented to Milford

Glenstal Woods Walk in loving memory of Kevin Hayes will take place next Saturday 3rd November at 11.00am. All funds raised will be donated to Heart House, the Mater Foundation. This is a 12k walk on forestry track and minor roadway. Walking boots recommended but may not be necessary depending on weather conditions. Parking in Murroe village and a shuttle service will take people to the start of the walk. Refreshments afterwards in the village hall. All our members and players and parents are asked to attend to assist in the running of our club. Best of luck to our minors who play Galbally in their final group game on Saturday at 5pm in Boher. Next Saturday (27th) the girls will play in a semi-final with fixture TBC – keep an eye on our Facebook page for fixtures. Next Saturday (27th) will also see our monthly clothes collection take place from 7.30 – 8pm in Murroe Clubhouse, any spare clothes donations greatly appreciated.

Murroe AFC Notes: There was a great trip for the U-12 boys and girls to the Aviva Stadium last weekend, along with a few more older clients. The match wasn’t hectic, but a good day out was had by all. Congratulations to Gráinne Regan who received her Ireland cap from John Delaney at half time in the match.

The Murroe AFC annual soccer draw will take place this year in November at the Valley Inn Murroe. Again, this year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. Please support this, our main fundraiser for 2018 Tickets are €10 each with books of 5 for €50. With 4 Cars, trips to Champions league final, IPADS, IPODS, Mobile Phones Weekends away and much much more it is the draw to be in this year. Tickets are available from players and committee members. Murroe-Boher Historical Society – It is that time of year again when we resume our winter talks. Our first speaker of this new season will be David McBurnie, who will discuss “Florence Barrington: A Year in Russia (1916-1917).” Like other young women of her age and class, Florence Barrington (of Clonkeen House and Clonshavoy) volunteered to serve as a nurse during the 1914-18 war. She travelled to Russia, where she worked in a field hospital on the Eastern Front. This talk centres on her work in difficult and challenging circumstances, drawing extensively on her diary, which gives a vivid, often humorous, account of the courage and commitment of a resourceful young woman in a time of war.  The talk begins as 8.30 sharp on Thursday next, October 18. Murroe/Boher GAA and Camogie Clubs will hold a Fundraising cycle – Family 5k and longer 40k – on Sunday next 21st October, starting at Harty Park, Murroe. Registration at 10am. Please support.

Murroe/Boher Camogie Club: Last weekend our minor team received a walkover against Treaty Gaels, this puts them in a great position heading into their final group game next Saturday (20th October) at 4pm in Boher against Galbally. Be sure to get out and support our girls.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team news: The A team took on Aisling Annacotty in Annacotty last Sunday and it ended up 0-0. The B team continued on winning ways with a hard fought 3-2 win also against Aisling Annacotty, while the C team came out 2-1 winners in a tight game with Athlunkard Villa. Keep an eye on the club’s Facebook Page for up to date fixtures and results.

The annual Murroe AFC fundraising draw, in association with the FAI is on again. There’s a fantastic range of prizes for both the National and the Local draws as always. Tickets have just been released and are priced at €10 or a book of 5 for €50. Tickets are available from all coaches, players, and committee members from this weekend. The Local draw will take place at the end of October with the National draw shortly afterwards.

The U-7 Boys team is looking for a volunteer to coach/manage the team, (boys born in 2011), so if you’d like to get involved, email murroeafc@gmail.com or contact Chairperson Jimmy Quinn on 0872334561. All necessary training will be provided by the club.

Murroe/Boher Camogie Club: Hard luck to our intermediate team who lost their semi-final to a strong Crecora team. The girls have made great strides this year and we look forward to what next year has to bring. Our thanks to the management team and players for their commitment to the club. Best of luck to our minor team who play their third round on Saturday at 5pm in Patrickswell. Last weekend saw our first hosting of an U11 blitz in memory of Johnny O’Brien. Teams from Newport, Cappamore and Treaty Gaels travelled to Boher for an exhibition of camogie with U7 and U9 games also taking place on the day. Well done to the victorious Newport team and thanks to all teams for travelling and to our own club mentors and parents who helped out on the day to ensure a smoothly run event, our thanks to all involved.

Table Quiz – Boher Community Development Association wishes to thank all who supported in every way, their very successful Table Quiz night.  It was a very enjoyable night and €1,000 was raised which will go towards the upgrade of Boher Community Centre which is in progress at the moment. Sincere thanks to Frank Ryan, Johnny Skehan, Liam and Brid Lynch and staff of Pa McGraths who hosted the event.  Thank you also to the many sponsors who very kindly supported the event and donated spot prizes.

Comhaltas AGM: The annual general meeting of the Craobh Pheig Uí Riain (Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas) will take place on Monday 1st Oct in the Community Centre, Cappamore at 9.00 pm. We would especially like to invite parents of students and adults attending the classes and anybody interested in the promotion of the traditional music, song, and dance in the area to attend this important meeting. Murroe Boher Bord na nOg would like to congratulate our u8 Hurlers who won our Munster u8 blitz last weekend, and also to Patrick Lonergan who was selected as player of the tournament. We would also like to congratulate our u10 Hurlers, who won our Jim Commons tournament last weekend, and congratulate Fintan Sheridan, who was player of the tournament. We would like to congratulate our u13 Hurlers, who were beaten in the final of our Ryan Cusack tournament, after winning a memorable semi-final win over near neighbours Ahane after extra time. The Club would like to thank all those who helped out, volunteered and supported our tournaments over the last couple of weeks, and everyone that attended our Family Fun Day with Liam McCarthy Cup and the official opening of our Ball Wall.

Murroe/Boher Camogie Club: Well done to our intermediate team who defeated Croagh/Kilfinny in their last group game to secure a semi-final spot against Crecora this Saturday (28th) at 5pm in Crecora, best of luck girls. Saturday morning also sees our first U11 tournament in memory of Johnny O’Brien where we will host Newport, Cappamore and Treaty Gaels along with U7 & U9 games, all kicking off in Boher from 11am – 2pm. Well done to Sophie Quaid, Ciara Oliver and Sarah Jane Flynn who were part of the Ahane-Murroe/Boher U14 team who won the county final on Tuesday evening. Our girls played their part in what was a thrilling 3 point win, well done girls. Next weekend (6th October) sees our minor team take to the field again, after 2 wins in their first 2 games, the girls will be looking to build on a good start and great seasons with the intermediate and U16 teams. Best of luck to all our girls and please come out and support them.

Boher Parish Calendar 2019 Boher Parish Calendar project team will be producing a parish calendar again for 2019. All members of the community are invited to submit photos for consideration. Old or modern photos will be accepted and can be related to a number of topics: historical interest, landscape, parish events, etc. Photos can be given to any of the Community Development Association members. Photos will be scanned/copied and originals will be returned within 5 days.

Murroe/Boher Camogie Club: Well done to Ciara Oliver, Orlaith Hickey, Sarah Jane Flynn and Sophie Quaid and the Ahane-Murroe/Boher team who are into a county U14 final. The girls had a tight, 3 point, win over Na Piarsaigh in the semi-final. The final takes place on Tuesday with time and venue TBC. Hard luck to our intermediate team who lost to Ballyagran last weekend. This Saturday the girls play at 5pm in Boher in a must win game to qualify for a semi-final spot, which take place next weekend. Hard luck to our U16 team who narrowly lost out to Mungret/St. Pauls in the shield semi-final, this brings an end to their year. Next weekend sees our club host teams from Tipperary and Limerick for an U11 tournament in memory of Johnny O’Brien on Saturday 29th September from 11am – 2pm in Boher. Also, on the day our U7 team will play Newport and our U9 team will play Treaty Gaels from 10am. All support and help is greatly appreciated, please contact a member of our committee if you would like to help out.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team news: The A team were fixed to play Glenview Rovers in the first round of the FAI Junior Cup last Sunday, but Glenview couldn’t field a team for the game, so a walkover was the result there. As it was the FAI Junior Cup, the B team and C team had no fixtures. This week its Munster Junior Cup time, the A team are fixed to play Caherconlish in the first round. The C team are also fixed to play Newport Town C team on Sunday afternoon in Tubber. Keep an eye on the club’s Facebook Page for up to date fixtures and results.

Murroe Boher GAA are delighted to announce the Official opening of our new Ball Wall Astro Turf facility in Harty Park on Sunday 16th September at 14.00, after the Tractor run. This will be followed by a family fun day in Harty Park, for all the family to enjoy. We will have a BBQ, Ice Cream, Face Painting, games and music. On Saturday, 22nd September, we will be hosting our annual u8 Hurling blitz, at 11.00am. This will be played in a Munster Championship format, and in the afternoon (16.00pm throw in), we will be hosting our annual Jim Commons u10 Hurling Tournament. On Sunday the 23rd September, we will be hosting our annual Ryan Cusack, u13 Hurling Tournament. Throw in for this tournament will at 14.00pm in Harty Park, Murroe. All tournaments will be followed by a medal presentation and a BBQ . Please save the dates.

The Paddy Dakar: The last weekend in September is marked on the social calendar of the village of Doon. On Friday 28th we welcome over 200 Paddy Dakar participants along with their families and friends. This national event runs through the weekend and is based at Doon Community Centre. The Paddy Dakar Committee would like to make you aware of this event as the riders this year will follow a route of over 200km and we urge you to WATCH OUT FOR BIKES ABOUT. We invite you also to join the community celebration as the participants return for prize giving and entertainment in the event marquee on Saturday. The Galty Valley food truck returns this year as does the very popular children’s event, The Junior Dakar. Craobh Pheig Uí Riain (Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas) will host music singing and Irish classes again for the coming year. Registration will take place on Monday 10th September from 6pm to 7pm at Scoil Chaitríona Cappamore. Regular classes will then commence on Monday 17th September at 6.20 pm to 8.50 pm.at Scoil Chaitríona Cappamore. Tuition is given by very experienced teachers and students are prepared for SCT exams run by Comhaltas along with Fleadh Cheoil competitions. All traditional instruments are taught including Tin Whistle, Flute, Fiddle, Concertina, Button Accordion, Banjo, Bodhrán. Classes are suitable for beginners, improvers and advanced levels. The Valley Golf Society held its annual Captain’s Prize, at Ballykisteen Golf Club, in glorious sunshine, on 01/09/18. Results as follows; 5th place PJ Joyce – 37pts. 4th place Tom Ryan – 39pts. 3rd place Brian Quinn – 41pts. 2nd place Jerry Doherty – 41 pts (back9). 1st Darren Dunlea – 43 pts. Thanks to everyone involved and for the large turnout on the day. Next outing is on the 13/10/18, in Tipperary Golf Club at 11 am.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team news: The A team lost out by a goal to nil to both Moyross Utd and Mungret Regional in the past week. Injuries are a problem at the moment with the games coming thick and fast. With injured players returning the tide will turn for sure. The B team had a fine 6-1 win over Abbey Rovers, the C team lost out on a score line of 3-1 to local rivals Lisnagry. The ladies team had a well earned 2-2 draw against Listowel Celtic.
