Boher Community Development Association: Table Quiz – Boher Community Development Association wishes to thank all who supported in every way, their very successful Table Quiz night.  It was a very enjoyable night and €1,500 was raised.  The proceeds will be presented to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust in memory of the late Rory Tynan, RIP.  Sincere thanks to Liam, Brid and Denis of Pa McGraths who hosted the event, and Frank Ryan and Johnny Skehan. Thank you also to the many sponsors who very kindly supported the event and donated spot prizes.

The annual general meeting of the Craobh Pheig Uí Riain (Murroe/Cappamore and surrounding areas will take place on Monday 30th Sept in the Community Centre, Cappamore at 9.00 pm. We would especially like to invite parents of students and adults attending the classes and anybody interested in the promotion of the traditional music, song, and dance in the area to attend this important meeting. A comprehensive review of the past years activities will be given as well as plans for the upcoming year.

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg would like to congratulate on u12 hurlers, who won the Shield Final, at the Ahane Tom Blake tournament, last Saturday afternoon. Our Team was captained by Calum Condon, and player of the tournament was our very own Tommie Cusack. We would also like to congratulate our u10s hurlers, who won the Kilmacud Crokes festival of hurling, in UCD, last Sunday, and to William Ryan, who captained the team on the day. Congrats also to our u8’s, who hurled brilliantly at Ahane’s u8 blitz last Saturday morning. We would like to send best wishes to our Minor team, who are playing Caherline on Sunday afternoon at 4.00pm in Cappamore in the City/East final.

Murroe Boher Camogie: COUNTY SEMI FINALS: Our intermediate team will play in the county semi-final on Sunday (29th) at 2pm in Clarina (New Pitch – Turn right at the traffic lights in the village coming from Mungret direction). We hope that all our supporters and members will travel to the game to support our players. Best of luck to players and management. On Saturday (28th) at 6pm our junior team will travel to Kilmallock for their semi-final. Best of luck to the team and management. On Saturday morning our club will host its second U12 tournament in memory of Johnny O’Brien. It will take place in Harty Park from 9am – 1pm. We will be welcoming teams from Newport, Ballina and Cappamore and look forward to a great day of camogie.

TABLE QUIZ: on Friday 18th October we will host our annual fundraising table quiz at 8pm in the Valley Inn, Murroe. A table of four for €20. This event is always a great success and we hope that the members of the community will support our clubs fundraising efforts and test their knowledge at the same time!

Murroe AFC Notes: Team news: On Sunday last the A team came out on top eventually after a penalty shootout in the first round of the Munster Junior Cup against Star Rovers after the scores finished 1-1 after extra time. The Youths (U-18) Team were also in Munster Cup Action last weekend and ended up beating Aisling Annacotty B in the First round of the Munster Youth Cup 1-0 on Sunday. Fixtures: This coming weekend it’s the turn of the FAI Junior Cup to take centre stage. The A team face Charleville away on Saturday evening in the first round of the National Competition at 7pm. On Sunday then the C team take on local rivals Newport Town in Div 3A of the League at 2pm. Diocesan and Parish Listening Process: On Monday 9th September a very successful meeting took place in Muntir na Tíre Hall Murroe to discuss the results of the recent research project in our parish. It was a revelation to discover that a great need was expressed by those in attendance to meet and talk about matters that are dear to the hearts and thinking of many in our parish community, for example, matters of Faith, Family, Youth and Community among others. A follow-up meeting is planned for this Monday 23rd September at 7.30 p.m. at the same venue. Your parish needs your participation. Please come along and bring a friend.

Kate Madigan from Abington is a Transition Year student in Castletroy College. Kate is fundraising and raising awareness of the great work that the Hope Foundation is doing for children of Calcutta. She will travel and work with the Hope Foundation in Calcutta during Easter next year. Kate will speak about Hope at the weekend masses in Murroe and Boher next weekend September 28th and 29th. Kate would really appreciate your time to listen to her message and give your support.

Old or modern photos will be accepted and can be related to a number of topics: historical interest, landscape, parish events, etc. Photos can be given to any of the Community Development Association members.  Photos will be scanned/copied and originals will be returned within 5 days

Adult Painting Classes resuming in Murroe hall on Thursday the 3rd of October from 7-9pm.  No experience is needed. beginners are very welcome. 8 weeks. €15 Euro pay as you go weekly.  Some materials and refreshments supplied, just please bring your own acrylic paints and brushes. Murroe Boher Bord na nOg are delighted to announce that our u13 hurlers have qualified for the Premier County Hurling Final V Monaleen. A suggested date for the final is Sunday 29th September, but this might change. Our u11 hurlers travelled to Dublin last Sunday morning to play in a festival of Hurling in UCD, and were beaten by 2 points in the Final by Kilmacud Crokes. This Sunday, our u10’s are travelling to UCD to play in a 20 team tournament, and we would like to wish them the best of luck.

Murroe Boher Camogie: On Sunday (22nd) our intermediate team will play a semi-final play-off against Croagh/Kilfinny for a semi-final spot, at 2pm, with venue to be confirmed, keep an eye on our Facebook page for the updated fixture and be sure to get out and support our girls. On Saturday our U10s will travel to Kileedy for their County Blitz day and on Sunday our U8s will travel to Monaleen for their county blitz day, both starting at 9.30am. The county blitzes always prove to be a great day out for our players. Best of luck to our teams and managements in all the fixtures. Hard luck to our U16 team, who are joined with Cappamore, who lost their plate semi-final and finishes their year. Our thanks to all players, management and parents who have worked hard for our club all year. Next Saturday (28th) we will hold our monthly clothes collection form 7.30 – 8pm in Murroe Clubhouse with all donations greatly appreciated.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team news: The Ladies team had the result of the weekend last weekend with a magnificent win in the prestigious LWSSL Junior Cup Final, played at the home of Football in Limerick, The Markets Field. It was a tight tense affair, but Murroe eventually overcame the Moyross Utd challenge with a 3-2 scoreline. Nicole Bennett with all 3 goals for Murroe.

Also on Sunday last the A team lost out to neighbours Newport Town in the league 3-0, The B team beat Knockainey on a 2-1 scoreline in the league, and the C team lost out in a high scoring affair 7-3 to Moyross Utd in the league also.

This Sunday 22nd it’s time for the Munster Junior Cup 1st Round, so just the one fixture for the men, Star Rovers v Murroe AFC at 2:30pm, The Youths (U-18) Team are also in Munster Cup Action this weekend, facing Aisling Annacotty B in the First round of the Munster Youth Cup away at 2:30pm on Sunday.

The Ladies team’s season has been completed now, well done to Marcella and the team for a great campaign, and especially well done on bringing home the Junior Cup to the Murroe AFC trophy cabinet again! Keep an eye on the club Facebook page and Twitter feeds for up to the minute fixtures and results!

Parish Choirs: Both Parish Choirs have resumed practice on Thursday evenings – Junior Choir 5.00pm to 6.00pm – Senior Choir 8.00pm to 9.30pm. New members are always welcome. Just drop along to the relevant practice.

Abington Church Harvest Festival takes place this Sunday 15th September at 3pm. All are welcome to this traditional event. A Collection for overseas aid will be taken up on the day.

Milford Hospice Coffee Morning: Denis Holmes will hold a Coffee Morning in aid of Milford Hospice in their showrooms on Thursday 19th September 10am – 2pm. Everyone Welcome to this very worthy fundraiser.

In collaboration with Boher Community First Responder, Irish Water Safety will hold 2 Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) CPR courses in Boher Community Centre on 21st September, 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm.  These courses are free to members of the community, with the option to register with PHECC (at a cost of €25). Craobh Pheig Uí Riain will host music singing and Irish classes again for the coming year. Regular classes will then commence on Monday 16th September at 6.20 pm to 8.50 pm.at Scoil Chaitríona Main St. Cappamore. All traditional instruments are taught including Tin Whistle, Flute, Fiddle, Concertina, Button Accordion, Banjo, Bodhrán. Classes are suitable for beginners, improvers and advanced levels. Murroe Boher Bord na nOg would like to congratulate on u10 hurlers on winning the John Joe Nevin, tournament in Ballina last Sunday morning. The team was captained by Cillian Holmes, and the player of the tournament was Liam Brouder. Congratulations to all concerned. Our u9’s won the B final on the same day.  Our u13’s beat Na Piarsaigh and Bruff this week, and face Garryspillane on Monday evening at 18.45pm in Harty Park, for a place in the county premier final. Our u11’s are travelling to UCD, on Sunday morning to face Kilmacud Crokes in a festival of hurling. Best wishes, also to our u16 hurlers, who are playing with Ahane this year, in the county Semi-final on Sunday morning in Rathkeale.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Hard luck to Sinead McElligott and Katie Heelan who were part of the Limerick junior team who lost out to a strong Kerry side in the All-Ireland final last weekend. Well done to Sophie Quaid and the Cappamore U14 team who won the Cup Final during the week. Hard luck to our U16 team, who are joined with Cappamore who lost their third-round game. They will play a plate semi-final against Galbally next Thursday in Galbally at 6.15. Next Saturday (21st) our U10s will travel to Kileedy for their County Blitz which is always a great day out. Next Sunday (22nd) our juniors will play Monaleen in their third round in Monaleen

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg had a massive weekend last weekend. On Friday evening, we hosted our Annual Ryan Cusack u13 Hurling final. This year, we played Roscrea, from Tipperary in the final, and we ran out comfortable winners. This year’s captain was Tommy Cusack, Oisin Holmes was voted man of the match, also on the night, the Club recognized the Achievements of our Mackey Cup Winners, Darren Collopy captain, Cathal Sheridan and Oisin Holmes. We also, honoured Michael Ryan, on being part of the Limerick Minor team that won the Munster hurling championship this year. On Saturday morning, we hosted u6 blitz V Cappawhite from Tipperary, and we also played Cappawhite in our annual u8 Munster tournament. After 9 keenly contested games, we came out on top, winning the Munster u8 trophy for the 3rd year in a row. This year’s captain was Patrick Leahy.  All players were presented with medals and a BBQ was served to all, Congratulations to all concerned. In the afternoon, we hosted our Annual Jim Commons, u10 Hurling tournament, with 2 team from Galway and Ballina from Tipperary. After a festival of hurling, we came out on top in the final, again for the 3rd year in a row. Congratulations to Cillian Holmes, who was voted player of the tournament, and Nathan Rainsford who captained this year’s team. Murroe Boher Camogie: ALL-IRELAND FINAL! Best of luck to Katie Heelan, Sinead McElligott and the Limerick junior team who play Kerry at 12noon in Croke Park in the All-Ireland final on Sunday (8th). The match will be shown live on RTE along with the intermediate and senior games so be sure to tune in if you can’t make it to Head Quarters. Well done to our intermediate team who defeated Croagh/Kilfinny last weekend to keep their hopes of qualifying for a semi-final alive. Hard luck to our U16s who lost to Crecora in their second round of championship, they play Doon next Thursday (12th) at home. Best of luck to Sophie Quaid who is playing with Cappamore U14s in the Cup Final on Tuesday (10th) in Monaleen. Well done to our U10s and U12s who continue to play blitzes and challenge games, it’s great to see our future stars continually improving.

Murroe AFC Notes: Team News: The C team lost out 4-1to Nenagh last Friday evening in the league, while the A team had a bad day losing out on a 6-2 scoreline against Fairview Rangers on Saturday last. The B team had a great win 2-0 against Hyde Rangers on Sunday last. Then on Tuesday last,  the Ladies had a great win in the semi-final of the junior cup on a 4-2 scoreline against near neighbours Cappamore Celtic.

CPR: Would you know what to do if someone had a heart attack?  Now is your chance to find out! In collaboration with Boher Community First Responder, Irish Water Safety will hold 2 Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC) CPR courses in Boher Community Centre on 21st September, 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm.  These courses are free to members of the community, with the option to register with PHECC (at a cost of €25). Catching the Light Art Exhibition. There will be an exhibition of paintings by Michael O’Brien in the Community Centre, Cappamore starting on Friday, 6th September at 8 o’clock. This exhibition, Catching the Light, is a collection of over fifty paintings consisting mainly of oils with some watercolours. There is a mixture of landscapes, seascapes and still life paintings. Michael took his inspiration from the locality, West Cork and Kerry. The exhibition runs over three days, Friday, 6th opening at 8 o’clock, Saturday, 7th from 10.00 to 6.00 and Sunday, 8th from 10.00 to 5.00. Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann Music Classes: Craobh Pheig Uí Riain will host music singing and Irish classes again for the coming year. Registration will take place on Monday 9th September from 6pm to 7pm at Scoil Chaitríona Cappamore. Regular classes will then commence on Monday 16th September at 6.20 pm to 8.50 pm.at Scoil Chaitríona Main St. Cappamore. Tuition is given by very experienced teachers and students are prepared for SCT exams run by Comhaltas along with Fleadh Cheoil competitions. All traditional instruments are taught including Tin Whistle, Flute, Fiddle, Concertina, Button Accordion, Banjo, Bodhrán. Classes are suitable for beginners, improvers and advanced levels. Murroe AFC Notes: Team News: The C team lost out 2-0 to Dromore Celtic last Friday evening in the league, while the A team had a good win on a 5-3 scoreline against Carew Park on Saturday last. The Youth team also had a great win 5-3 against Shelbourne on Sunday last. The A team then lost out to Moyross Utd 3-1 on Tuesday last, while the Ladies had no fixture, and the B team lost out to Wembley Rovers on 3-1 scoreline too.

Fixtures: The A team face Fairview Rangers away on Saturday evening 31st at 6:30pm and the B team face Hyde Rangers away at10:30am on Sunday 1st.  On Tuesday 3rd the B team are away to Knockainey at 6:30pm and the Ladies team play Cappamore Celtic in the Junior Cup in Tubber at 7pm. Murroe Boher Bord na nOg: Murroe Boher u12’s went to Semple Stadium, Thurles, on Wednesday 14th August. They played and won all 3 matches against Ferrybank from Waterford, Moyle Templetouhy from Tipperary and Douglas from Cork. The lads went on a stadium tour afterwards and were treated to a Supermacs on the way home. Congratulations to all involved. Next Friday, 30th August, we are hosting our annual u13 Ryan Cusack tournament. This year we are playing Wolfetones from Shannon in the final, to be played at 7.00pm in Harty Park. A BBQ will follow the presentation of medals. All are welcome. On Saturday, 31st August, we are hosting our annual Munster u8 hurling tournament, at 10.00am in Harty Park. In the afternoon, we are hosting our annual Jim Commons u10 hurling tournament, with Ballina from Tipperary, Kilmacud Crokes from Dublin and Gort from Galway. This promises to be a feast of hurling. Again, a BBQ will be served after medal presentation, again all are welcome.

Murroe Boher Camogie: This weekend our U8s host Kilmallock, Monaleen and Ahane on Saturday at 11am in Boher for their fourth blitz of the year. Also on Saturday our Junior team travel to Ahane for their first round of championship at 6.30pm. Hard luck to our intermediate team who lost their third round game to Bruff. Next weekend they will travel to Croagh/Kilfinny for their final, must win, group game at 11am on Sunday (September 1st). On Thursday evening (August 29th) our U16s, who are joined with Cappamore, will travel to Newcastle West for their first round of championship. Next Saturday our U10s will host their third blitz of the year at home while our U8s will travel to the county blitz. Our club is looking at organising a bus to Croke Park on September 8th to support our club members Katie Heelan and Sinead McElligott who will play in the All Ireland Junior Camogie final at 12noon. The C team unfortunately lost to Mungret Regional on Friday last 4-2 in their first league fixture. The A team beat Aisling Annacotty 3-0 on Tuesday last, while the Ladies lost out 6-2 to Listowel Celtic, and the new Youth (U-18) team had a fine 4-1 win on Thursday evening against Corbally Utd.

The C team are at home to Dromore Celtic at 6:30pm on Friday 23rd, The A team face Carew Park away on Saturday evening 24th at 6:30pm and the Youth team face Shelbourne away at 2pm on Sunday 25th.  On Tuesday 27th then the A team are at home to Moyross Utd at 6:30pm and the Ladies team play Cappamore Celtic in the Junior Cup also in Tubber but at 7pm. On Wednesday 28th the B Team are at home to Wembley Rovers at 6:30pm, while on Friday 30th the C team are away to Nenagh at 6:30pm.
