Murroe Boher Camogie: Next weekend sees our U16 team take on Newcastle West in the A final. This is currently set for Saturday (1st Oct) at 2pm in venue TBC. For updates stay tuned to our Facebook page. Best of luck to all the girls who are looking to add the championship to the league title they won earlier in the year. Last weekend saw our intermediate team bow out of the championship after losing to Crecora in the semi-final. This was a great effort by a brilliant bunch of girls who put in a lot of time and dedication to reach the semi-final stage. Thanks to Alan and Bill who came on board this year and did Trojan work. Soon we will see our U13s and minor teams back in championship action. Be sure to get out and support our U16s as they bid to bring an A title back to the club.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Last weekend’s result means our intermediate team now play Crecora in the county semi-final on Sunday at 12pm in Boher. This is a rematch of last year’s final and promises to be a battle so be sure to come down and lend your support. On Friday night our U16 team played their A semi-final against Galbally, result next weekend. Last weekend saw our U8s take to the Gaelic Grounds where they showcased their skills. Be sure to support our girls in their upcoming pivitol matches.

Murroe/Cappamore Comhaltas will host music and singing classes again for the coming year. Registration will take place on 12th September from 6pm to 7pm at Scoil Chaitríona Cappamore. Regular classes will then commence on Monday 19th September at 6.20 pm to 8.30 pm.at Scoil Chaitríona Cappamore. Tuition is given by very experienced teachers and students are prepared for SCT exams run by Comhaltas along with Fleadh Cheoil competitions. All traditional instruments are taught including Tin Whistle, Flute, Fiddle, Concertina, Piano Accordion, Button Accordion and Banjo etc. There is a class in both Irish and English singing also. Patricia Gleeson has been invited to travel to Austria as a volunteer for the Special Olympics World Winter Games in March 2017. Murroe Boher Camogie: Our intermediate team had a hard fought win over Crecora last weekend and on Friday night played Bruff in their last group game. Semi-finals will take place on September 18th. During the week our minors and U16 teams came out on top in their games. The U16s have now topped their group and will play Galbally in a county semi-final on Friday 16th at 6.30pm in Boher. Our young stars take to the pitch in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday at half time in the senior hurling championship game between Murroe/Boher and Patrickswell at 2pm. Best of luck to Laurie Quaid, Aoibhe Butler and Jayne Ryan who travel to Dublin with the Limerick U14 development squad for the All-Ireland Blitz. This weekend sees the All-Ireland camogie finals take place in Croke Park, tune into RTE1 at 2pm on Sunday to see the intermediate final while the senior final takes place at 4pm, a great opportunity to see the best camogie players in the country. Best of luck to all teams in upcoming games.

 

Murroe AFC Notes. This Sunday Murroe Ladies will make a little bit of history when the senior ladies team contest the Div 1 cup final v Listowel at the MARKETS FIELD at 2pm. This is the 1st ladies match at the spiritual home of soccer in Limerick in over 40 years and we are asking as many people as possible to come along and support the girls. Tickets for the new soccer draw available from any club member.

Mulcair Mens Shed – Open Day Sunday 28th August 2016

Hi All,

Mulcair Men’s Shed are having an Open Day event at our shed in Abington Enterprise Center, next Sunday 28th August from 2:00-6:00pm. Please come along and see our Shed and hear about the projects we are carrying out.

See the picture attached. These are Tactile Sensory Boards, which is the latest project that the men of Mulcair Men’s Shed are working on for special needs children. Come along to our Open Day and see them up close and personal.

ALL are welcome. So please bring along your family and friends.

Of course, we will have Music, a Barabecue, a MONSTER Raffle and some lucky dip prizes.

The Shed is located a half mile from Powers Pub, Abington, heading towards Annacotty.

We have some musicians lined up for the day, but if you know of any other session musicians that might like to come along and join the fun, they would be most welcome.

Boher Parish Calendar 2017: Boher Parish Calendar project team will be producing a parish calendar again for 2017. All members of the community are invited to submit photos for consideration. Old or modern photos will be accepted and can be related to a number of topics: historical interest, landscape, parish events, etc. Photos can be given to any of the Community Development Association members. Photos will be scanned/copied and originals will be returned within 5 days. Closing date for receipt of photos is Sunday 4 September.

 

Cappamore Historical Society will host a lecture on Ned Daly of limerick who fought in The Four Courts in 1916 and was executed for his part in the Rising, by Liam Erwin, former History lecturer in Mary Immaculate Limerick on Monday, August 22nd in Cappamore Community Centre at 7.30 pm. On Tuesday August 23rd The Society will hold an event to commemorate the 1916 Rising. This will include the unveiling of a hand forged sculpture designed and crafted by Eric O’Neill. The event will be held in the local library and will start at 7.30.

 

LCFE Cappamore Campus are now enrolling for full time PLC, QQI Level 5 courses in Childcare, Healthcare, Nursing Studies, Animal Care, Construction, Business and Blacksmith. Murroe Boher Camogie: With the inter county seasons finished, it’s time to concentrate on the club scene. Fixtures are kicking into action this week with our U13, U14, U16 and intermediate teams all in action. The U14 team take to the pitch against neighbours Doon on Tuesday (23rd) at 6.30pm in Doon. The U13s take on Kilmallock in Kilmallock on Thursday (25th) at 7pm. On Friday (26th) the U16 team who won the league in style line out in their first round of championship against Bruff in Boher at 6.30pm. Our intermediate team look to continue their winning ways against Ballybrown on Sunday (28th) at 6.30pm in Boher. Please get out to support our girls as championship season gets into full flow.

 

Murroe Boher Bord na nOg wish to invite everyone to our upcoming tournaments. On Sunday 21st August, we are hosting our annual Jim Commons tournament at 16.00 in Harty Park, Murroe. This is an u10 Hurling tournament, with teams from Tipperary, Cork and Limerick. A BBQ will be served, so come out and support our young hurlers. On Saturday, 27th August, we are hosting our Ryan Cusack tournament, at 13.30 in Harty Park, Murroe. This is an u13 Hurling tournament, with teams from Limerick and Tipperary taking part, again a BBQ, will be served, all support welcome.

 

Murroe AFC: Registration for all underage girls (u16 down to u8s) will take place on Friday 26th August in the club house at 8pm, we look forward to welcoming all players back, all new players are also welcome. Murroe Boher Ladies Gaelic Football: Congratulations to Limerick u17 Girls Gaelic Footballers who for the first time won out the All-Ireland blitz in Portmarnock Dublin earlier this week. Well done to Anna Madigan from our club who played her part in the win where Limerick beat teams from Offaly, Cork, Carlow, Mayo, Galway and Armagh in the final. This was a major achievement to bring All Ireland glory back to Limerick again.

Milford Hospice Annual Harvest Fair celebrates its 31st anniversary and takes place this Sunday 14th August at the University of Limerick. There will be a fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.

 

Community First Responder Group Boher, will run a CPR training session at Boher Community Centre on Saturday 20th August, 9:00am-12:00 noon. Training will be provided by Paul Earls & Ita Richardson. For volunteers, this will be a chance to refresh your CPR skills and to get in some practice. Come along at any time – it should take no longer than 1/2 hour of your time. In addition, people from the community are invited to learn how to do CPR.  Everyone is welcome – it is about people knowing what to do if they were faced with a situation at home, on a sports field etc. So, if you are not a volunteer, feel free to join this group at any time during the morning. Allow about 1/2 hour! Please let others know about this training – everyone is welcome.

Blood Donor Clinic: 3000 units of blood are required every week. 1000 people receive blood or a blood product every week. 1:4 of our population require blood at some point in their life. 3% only of our population give blood. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be holding a blood donor clinic in the Community Centre Newport from 5-8pm on Thursday 18th August.

Murroe AFC Notes. New Club Draw. The club has decided to completely revamp our annual draw which usually takes place at Christmas. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 23rd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. Tickets cost €10 each and are available from players and committee members. Golden Jubilee Mass: Fr. Michael Ryan will celebrate his Golden Jubilee Mass in Murroe Church at 11.30am Next Sunday.

Sincere thanks to all those who attended the Cemetery Mass in Abington last Sunday. Special thanks to the volunteers who ensured things ran smoothly. It was lovely to see such a large crowd despite the showers.

Many thanks for your contributions to Abington Graveyard collection. Total collect was €740.

This year the Milford Hospice Annual Harvest Fair celebrates its 31st anniversary and is scheduled for Sunday 14th August at the University of Limerick. There will be a fun filled programme of activities and entertainment. Items such as plants, bottles for the bottle stall, and homemade cakes along with new items for the Wheel of Fortune will be accepted on the day only. All other goods such as toys, fancy goods and books are being accepted at the Hospice from the 2nd August 2016. For further details, please contact the Fundraising Office on 061 485859.

Cliona’s Foundation 9th Annual Cycle will take place on Sat 27th Aug next at Bruff Rugby Club, Kilballyown, Bruff, Co. Limerick. Again there are three routes – 90 k (over 18’s); 40k and 10k which will be the first off at 9:45 am. Registration from 8:30 am, adults €20, child €5 and family €30. Murroe Boher Camogie: Well done to our intermediate team who had a comprehensive win in their first championship match this year against Na Piarsaigh. The ladies are out again at the end of the month against Ballybrown. The county U16 team lost to Waterford last weekend in their final game of the campaign. Edel Cunningham, Karen Cunningham and Katie Heelan togged out for the team all season. Well done to Grainne Regan, Aoife Barry and Saoirse Barry who were part of the county minor team that won the Munster shield against Cork on Wednesday evening. This marks the end of the minor season as well. Well done girls, we are very proud of ye. The final county team left in competition is the junior team who take on Kerry in Kilmallock at 2.30pm on Sunday, Aoife Barry, Saoirse Barry and Grainne Regan represent the club on this team as well. Best of luck to our girls and be sure to support our teams when you can.

Murroe AFC Notes. New Club Draw. The club has decided to completely revamp our annual draw which usually takes place at Christmas. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 23rd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. Tickets cost €10 each and are available from players and committee members. BALLYHOURA INTERNATIONAL WALKING FESTIVAL: Throngs of walkers are expected to descend on the many towns and villages of Ballyhoura Country over the August weekend (20th & 21st) as a kick start to Heritage Week, to take part in the 2016 Ballyhoura International Walking Festival. The festival, now in its 22nd year, is expected to attract walkers throughout the weekend from all over Ireland and appealing to many overseas visitors and friends. The festival provides an opportunity to explore some of Ballyhoura Country’s stunning countryside in the company of guides from the Ballyhoura Bears walking club. The Festival features a packed programme of walks for all abilities, from the enthusiastic well-equipped walker who relishes the challenge of the half marathon on the Saturday morning, to the gentle ramblers who are out to enjoy pleasant guided walks in the company of local experts in the fields of heritage, archaeology, history, flora and fauna. This year, the trailhead of the Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Park near Ardpatrick in Co. Limerick becomes the home of the walking festival, with all registration for Saturday walks taking place here. The facilities provide secure parking, toilets and shower facilities and also provide an opportunity for walkers to see the array of bike routes, trim trail and nature trail located here. Saturdays longer distance walks will commence registration at 9:30am, with the first ascending the highest peak on the Ballyhouras, Seefin, travelling over a distance of 13miles with the B walk, a circuit by river and forest. Saturdays C walk is the perfect 1.5 hour led walk to cover the trails and facilities on the mountain, refreshments will be provided post walk at designated locations. This year the Festival line up on Sunday will included a range of walks including a river & forest walk, animal sanctuary walk where there is an opportunity to walk your dog, archaeological walks at Lough Gur, a heritage walk at Doneraile & Galty Castle Wood, historical walks in Kilfinane, an Archaeology walk where you can learn about the iron age agricultural community dating from about 1,000BC to 400AD. All walks should prove hugely popular and provide great insights into some of the area’s finest historical, heritage and archaeological attractions. Long time partners of the festival the Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre, The Ballyhoura Bears Walking Club, Ballyhoura Development, Ballyhoura Fáilte and Sheehy’s Centra, Kilfinane all contributing to ensure the continued success of the event. MURROE 45 DRIVE: The 45 results are as follows; First, Liz Barron & Kathleen Boyle, second; Dick Laffan & Donie Coffey and Paddy Lee & Liam Shinnors and, and third; Pat O’Connor& Patsy Laffan. Table prizes were won by John Lynch & Seamus Reynolds and Tom Dundon & Eugene Doolan. 45 Drive takes place every Tuesday night at 8-15 pm for the summer.

 

LIMERICK HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Limerick Historical Society will hold its next evening walk on Wednesday, August 10. The historic walk will commence at Barrington’s Hospital, George’s Quay at 7 p.m. The hospital was built in 1830, by the Barrington family of Glenstal, Murroe, at a cost of €10,000. Initially, there will be a talk on the Barringtons and the houses associated with the family. From there we will proceed down Mary Street to take in some sights along the way and we will finish with a guided tour of the North Munster Masonic Centre on Castle Street. Everybody is welcome and there is no charge.

MURROE-BOHER GAA: The latest Lotto results are as follows: Number drawn: 4, 7, 27, 31, with no Jackpot winner. €20-00 Lucky Dip winners were: Ray Ryan, Mary Walshe, Rita & Gerald McInerney and Seamus Collopy. The latest draw will be in Pa McGrath’s of Boher with the jackpot at €5,700.

 

MURROE-BOHER CAMOGIE: Training will take place on Wednesday evenings at 6.30 pm and Saturday mornings at 11am in Murroe (except the bank holiday weekend). This exciting development will see all of these boys and girls benefit from the combined expertise of all the coaches. Here’s to the future stars of the parish!
