Golden Jubilee Mass: Congratulations to Fr. Michael Ryan who celebrates his Golden Jubilee Mass in Murroe Church this Sunday at 11.30am.

 

Milford Hospice Annual Harvest Fair celebrates its 31st anniversary and takes place this Sunday 14th August at the University of Limerick. There will be a fun filled programme of activities and entertainment.

 

Community First Responder Group Boher, will run a CPR training session at Boher Community Centre on Saturday 20th August, 9:00am-12:00 noon. Training will be provided by Paul Earls & Ita Richardson. For volunteers, this will be a chance to refresh your CPR skills and to get in some practice. Come along at any time – it should take no longer than 1/2 hour of your time. In addition, people from the community are invited to learn how to do CPR.  Everyone is welcome – it is about people knowing what to do if they were faced with a situation at home, on a sports field etc. So, if you are not a volunteer, feel free to join this group at any time during the morning. Allow about 1/2 hour! Please let others know about this training – everyone is welcome.

Blood Donor Clinic: 3000 units of blood are required every week. 1000 people receive blood or a blood product every week. 1:4 of our population require blood at some point in their life. 3% only of our population give blood. The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will be holding a blood donor clinic in the Community Centre Newport from 5-8pm on Thursday 18th August.

 

Murroe 5k Race/Walk will be held on Saturday 27th August at 11am.  As usual the route will include Glenstal Abbey grounds, starting at Murroe Muintir na Tíre Hall and finishing at Glenstal front gate.  Families and walkers are very welcome to participate.  We are adding an U13 (on the day) category to the Road Race.  Children can enter with their Family, paying Family price or for €4 (pre-register) / €5 (on the day). Cliona’s Foundation 9th Annual Cycle will take place on Sat 27th Aug next at Bruff Rugby Club, Kilballyown, Bruff, Co. Limerick. Again there are three routes – 90 k (over 18’s); 40k and 10k which will be the first off at 9:45 am. Registration from 8:30 am, adults €20, child €5 and family €30. Murroe AFC Notes. New Club Draw. The club has decided to completely revamp our annual draw which usually takes place at Christmas. This year we are promoting the FAI draw which will give each participant 3 chances to win. There will be a National Draw, a Munster draw and all tickets sold locally by Murroe AFC will be entered into a local draw also (similar to the Christmas draw) There is an incredible prize fund including 4 ford fiesta cars 1 for each province, holidays, trips to soccer games, X-Boxes, mobile phones, vouchers, match tickets and many more. In addition to this the club will run a local draw also where all tickets bought for the National/Regional draw will be entered again for a super prize fund. The National draw takes place on November 23rd at the Aviva Stadium and our local draw will be prior to this. Tickets cost €10 each and are available from players and committee members. Golden Jubilee Mass: Fr. Michael Ryan will celebrate his Golden Jubilee Mass in Murroe Church at 11.30am Next Sunday.

Sincere thanks to all those who attended the Cemetery Mass in Abington last Sunday. Special thanks to the volunteers who ensured things ran smoothly. It was lovely to see such a large crowd despite the showers.

Many thanks for your contributions to Abington Graveyard collection. Total collect was €740.

Murroe Boher Camogie: Well done to our intermediate team who had a comprehensive win in their first championship match this year against Na Piarsaigh. The ladies are out again at the end of the month against Ballybrown. The county U16 team lost to Waterford last weekend in their final game of the campaign. Edel Cunningham, Karen Cunningham and Katie Heelan togged out for the team all season. Well done to Grainne Regan, Aoife Barry and Saoirse Barry who were part of the county minor team that won the Munster shield against Cork on Wednesday evening. This marks the end of the minor season as well. Well done girls, we are very proud of ye. The final county team left in competition is the junior team who take on Kerry in Kilmallock at 2.30pm on Sunday, Aoife Barry, Saoirse Barry and Grainne Regan represent the club on this team as well. Best of luck to our girls and be sure to support our teams when you can.

BALLYHOURA INTERNATIONAL WALKING FESTIVAL: Throngs of walkers are expected to descend on the many towns and villages of Ballyhoura Country over the August weekend (20th & 21st) as a kick start to Heritage Week, to take part in the 2016 Ballyhoura International Walking Festival. The festival, now in its 22nd year, is expected to attract walkers throughout the weekend from all over Ireland and appealing to many overseas visitors and friends. The festival provides an opportunity to explore some of Ballyhoura Country’s stunning countryside in the company of guides from the Ballyhoura Bears walking club. The Festival features a packed programme of walks for all abilities, from the enthusiastic well-equipped walker who relishes the challenge of the half marathon on the Saturday morning, to the gentle ramblers who are out to enjoy pleasant guided walks in the company of local experts in the fields of heritage, archaeology, history, flora and fauna. This year, the trailhead of the Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Park near Ardpatrick in Co. Limerick becomes the home of the walking festival, with all registration for Saturday walks taking place here. The facilities provide secure parking, toilets and shower facilities and also provide an opportunity for walkers to see the array of bike routes, trim trail and nature trail located here. Saturdays longer distance walks will commence registration at 9:30am, with the first ascending the highest peak on the Ballyhouras, Seefin, travelling over a distance of 13miles with the B walk, a circuit by river and forest. Saturdays C walk is the perfect 1.5 hour led walk to cover the trails and facilities on the mountain, refreshments will be provided post walk at designated locations. This year the Festival line up on Sunday will included a range of walks including a river & forest walk, animal sanctuary walk where there is an opportunity to walk your dog, archaeological walks at Lough Gur, a heritage walk at Doneraile & Galty Castle Wood, historical walks in Kilfinane, an Archaeology walk where you can learn about the iron age agricultural community dating from about 1,000BC to 400AD. All walks should prove hugely popular and provide great insights into some of the area’s finest historical, heritage and archaeological attractions. Long time partners of the festival the Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre, The Ballyhoura Bears Walking Club, Ballyhoura Development, Ballyhoura Fáilte and Sheehy’s Centra, Kilfinane all contributing to ensure the continued success of the event. MURROE 45 DRIVE: The 45 results are as follows; First, Liz Barron & Kathleen Boyle, second; Dick Laffan & Donie Coffey and Paddy Lee & Liam Shinnors and, and third; Pat O’Connor& Patsy Laffan. Table prizes were won by John Lynch & Seamus Reynolds and Tom Dundon & Eugene Doolan. 45 Drive takes place every Tuesday night at 8-15 pm for the summer.

 

LIMERICK HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Limerick Historical Society will hold its next evening walk on Wednesday, August 10. The historic walk will commence at Barrington’s Hospital, George’s Quay at 7 p.m. The hospital was built in 1830, by the Barrington family of Glenstal, Murroe, at a cost of €10,000. Initially, there will be a talk on the Barringtons and the houses associated with the family. From there we will proceed down Mary Street to take in some sights along the way and we will finish with a guided tour of the North Munster Masonic Centre on Castle Street. Everybody is welcome and there is no charge.

MURROE-BOHER GAA: The latest Lotto results are as follows: Number drawn: 4, 7, 27, 31, with no Jackpot winner. €20-00 Lucky Dip winners were: Ray Ryan, Mary Walshe, Rita & Gerald McInerney and Seamus Collopy. The latest draw will be in Pa McGrath’s of Boher with the jackpot at €5,700.

 

MURROE-BOHER CAMOGIE: Training will take place on Wednesday evenings at 6.30 pm and Saturday mornings at 11am in Murroe (except the bank holiday weekend). This exciting development will see all of these boys and girls benefit from the combined expertise of all the coaches. Here’s to the future stars of the parish!
